Read Mark 3:13-35
The Lenten season is the time for sober reflection for each individual in Christ. It is a time of reflection, a time of repentance and a time to rededicate one’s self to the will of God and his purposes in one’s life. We cannot continue to live in sin and expect an abundance of his love.
Let us imagine that Jesus Christ went on the hillside to pray and make a special list of his appointed, close associates, friends, brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers while we are waiting at the foot of the hill. Will your name or mine be there? Yes, let us get ready to listen to the names. His expectations are high. He needs someone who will: 1) continue to be with him always meaning that we must represent him by being Christlike - we must try to be pure, holy, speak kind words, be fair at all times; 2) Be sent out to preach - are we ready to go far and near to take up missionary work preaching not only to Christians but sharing the good news with unbelievers; 3) have authority and power to heal the sick - we have to pray seriously to God for his grace and be prepared to search for the physically and spiritually sick to heal them; 4) have authority and power to drive out demons - are we bold enough or is anyone prepared to drive out demons in the name of Jesus.
These are a few things we need to spend this Lenten season preparing for. We need the special grace of God to count us worthy of the above assignments that God has for us. Then and only then will God rename us as he did Saul to Paul.
We pray.
