Read Mark 7:1-23

When I was a child, I remember running in from outside. Something smells good I said, while lifting the lid from the pot. My Grandma would yell, you better go wash your hands, and please use soap! As I returned to the kitchen table, I asked Big Mama, “ Don't you wash the food before you cook it?” She would say yes. When we say grace and bless the food that makes it safe right? She said yes. So why do we need to wash our hands? She smiled and replied, “Because I said so.”
Traditions: The Pharisees didn't like the way the disciples washed their hands. They had a whole ritual planned for them passed down from the elders, but the disciples washed their hands and went on to eat. The Pharisees then questioned Jesus, and Jesus said, “Your fellowship with God is not interrupted by outwardly stuff, all the evil comes from inside the heart.” It doesn't matter how clean your hands or food is, that doesn't keep you from God, it's SIN.

Prayer: Father God help us to remember tradition while keeping our focus on you. Continue to work within us to strengthen our relationship with you.
In Jesus Name

Amen
