Read Mark 8:22-26

Bethsaida was a fishing town on the shore of the Jordan at the Sea of Galilee. There were probably lots of fisherman plying their trade and perhaps there was a healthy market. I don't know much about this home of three apostles (Andrew, Peter and Philip) but the Son of God saw fit to visit it and give us a glimpse of His power.
When you read this passage you may wonder at why this miracle played out this way. Certainly Jesus could have healed the blind man at a word or a single touch. And why did He take him out of the village? I don't know for sure but sometimes healing takes a little time and sometimes we have to get away with Jesus for the healing to come. We may want some great, dramatic miracle but healing, whether instantly or gradually is a miracle and comes from the hand of our God.

This blind man was brought to Jesus by some people. They no doubt had seen or heard about the feeding of the four thousand and the healing of the woman with the issue of blood so they knew what the Rabbi could do. But imagine their disappointment when Jesus led the man away without their having the privilege of seeing the miracle. Did they want to see the healing due to their compassion for the man or just see a miracle. I don't know but Jesus did heal the man. Not instantly or with fanfare in front of a crowd but He did heal him and there He gives us another reason to hope and believe in Him.

PRAYER

Thank You Father for the gift of healing. You are called Jehovah Rophe and we bow down with gratitude for Your healing touch in our lives. Remember Your children who stand in need of Your healing touch; whether mind, body or soul and help us to never give up hope in Your promises. In Jesus' name we pray.

Amen
