Pondering and Meditating
Lent is a time of reflection and self renewal; a time for striving to reciprocate God’s love for us, which in spite of our constant disobedience and recalcitrance, selflessly gave his only son to suffer on the cross for us. The passage reminds us to focus on the essence of life and love, as reflected in Christ’s admonition to the Sadducees. Jesus’ suffering demonstrates the ultimate love. Such love! The theme of Love is central in our relationship with God and man. Love God with all your heart, soul and mind, and love your neighbors as ourselves. Jesus calls us to let go our obsession with worldly materials and matters; to concentrate less on earthly trivial pursuits and seek to love God unconditionally and our fellow human beings selflessly.
Prayer
Lord, help us to rediscover you, not just this season, but everyday and reposition our hearts and minds on spiritual growth and love for our fellow men. Diminish our love for self, so that we may better appreciate your love for us as we aspire to love you and others as we love ourselves. Amen
