Read Mark 15:42-47
The Burial of Christ
On the evening of preparation, which is the day before the Sabbath, Joseph of Arimathea, a disciple of Jesus and a distinguished member of the council arrived. He himself was awaiting the kingdom of God. He courageously went before Pilate and requested the body of Jesus.
Pilate was surprised that he was already dead and summoned a centurion to confirm this. He then ordered that the body be handed over to Joseph.
He went prepared for this event had purchased a new linen sheet in which he wrapped Jesus after taking him down. Joseph placed the body in a new tomb which was dug out in the rocks and rolled a huge stone to cover the entrance of the tomb and left.
Looking on from a distance were Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph to see where Jesus was buried and remained sitting looking at the tomb.
Joseph, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph showed their love for Jesus who paid the ultimate price for our sins.
