Read Mark 7:31-37
My first thought after reading this scripture was of the humility of Christ. After healing the deaf man, he told the disciples not to tell any. He quietly went about his work of healing the lame and preaching God's word. He didn't need to be recognized for his great works. In the same way, he humbly went to the cross to give up his life for you and me. As we prepare for Good Friday and Easter Sunday, we need to remember his gift to us.
My second thought after reading this scripture was of how my ears (like those of the deaf man in the story) have been opened to the ways of God. I have always believed in God. My grandparents were missionaries and my mother was a church choir director, so I always went to church. But little by little, through the years, my eyes and my ears have been opened to His truths. A big factor in this growth has been through Disciple Bible study. About ten years ago, Doris Judd invited me to join her Disciple I Bible group. Then she invited me to Disciple II and III and IV. I couldn't turn her down (God had opened her mouth in a convincing way). Through these studies my understanding of the Bible grew and my knowledge of God's will became more clear. Just as the ears of the blind man were opened, my ears were opened. As I attempt to also open my mouth and share my experience in this devotional, I pray for you, that your eyes and ears will be opened to His will for you.
Prayer: "Open my ears that I may hear, voices of truth Thou sendest clear ... Open my mouth and let me bear, gladly the warm truth everywhere."
Amen
