Read Mark 1:1-8

In the beginning Mark quotes Isaiah and begins his story of John the Baptist with what was proclaimed in the Old Testament. John the Baptist had been baptizing people with water for some time. His dress and what he ate likened him to Elijah. But he proclaims that "one greater than he will come to baptize you in the Holy Spirit." He was sent to prepare the way for Christ and to prepare the people to receive Christ.

How often does God call us to tasks and a life that we do not feel worthy of? John the Baptist did not feel worthy. But he faithfully did his task and he was ready for Christ.

In this Lenten season we are to continually prepare ourselves for what Christ has for us to do. We should be meditating on God's word and listen for what he calls us to do. We are blessed to know the rest of the story. That makes it all the more important to follow Christ. We know better than the first hearers of Marks Gospel what Christ taught, how He lived, and what He promises us every day. He showed us a better way. Let’s spend Lent showing how much we love the Lord.

Lord, may I give you each & every day my love and my faithfulness. May I listen and follow you with my whole heart now and always.

Amen
