Read Mark 12: 35-44
In this passage Jesus asks us to describe who He is; He also makes us aware of false spiritualists amongst us; and lastly Jesus advises us on how to live a fulfilling Christian life.
Jesus first asks us if we really know who Christ is. For me, Jesus Christ is my Savior, the only One who lived on this earth without sin, yet died for my sins, and was resurrected so that I can have life eternal.
Jesus warns us about some leaders who use His name for personal satisfaction. His promise to us who are mislead by these leaders is that they punishment will be severe. To help us avoid such leaders, Jesus has given us a study guide – The Bible. Everything we need to know is already in this Book. If we read and study the Bible everyday and join groups who discuss the Word then we will be more knowledgeable of its content and be alert to false teachings and pretenses.
This passage ends with Jesus asking us if we personally, really know the reason why we give to His ministries. Is it out of being self-righteous and being proud or is it out of being humble, sincere, and thankful for all He has done for us? Remember Jesus doesn’t need our earthly gifts - great or small- for Him to decide if we will be with Him when he comes again. When we give of our tithes and talents to help the work of Christ we must do so with honor, grace, and love, remembering what we are giving back is a very small portion of what is continually given to us.
Prayer: Father we pray for understanding of your Word and commitment to your way of living. Help us to use our gifts and talents to bring others closer to you, in Jesus’ name.
Amen
